Former astronaut Jay Buckey is a scientist, physician, and an advocate for new energy policy. He is committed to expanding US leadership in technology, innovation, and renewable energy, and in 2008 he was a Democratic candidate for the US Senate in New Hampshire.

 

Jay received his B.S. in Engineering from Cornell University and his M.D. from Cornell Medical School. He also served for eight years as a flight surgeon in the Air Force Reserve.


In 1998, Jay flew as a Payload Specialist Astronaut aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia, flying 6.3 million miles and orbiting the Earth 256 times. He is the author of the award-winning book, Space Physiology (Oxford Press, 2006).

Currently, Jay is a professor of medicine at Dartmouth Medical School. He and his wife, Sarah, have three children and live in Hanover, NH.
